Any one of these is enough to get close, and close is fine. Resizing afterwards is routine and often same-day.
- Borrow a ring she already wears
Bring it in. Note which finger it is worn on. It matters more than people expect.
- Trace the inside of one on paper
Less exact, but a useful starting point.
- Ask someone who would know
A sister or a close friend has usually been told at some point.
- Or just accept it will be resized
Plenty of people propose with a ring that gets adjusted the following week. Nothing is lost by it.

Fingers are not a fixed size, which is why an online chart is only ever a guess. Two of these are about the hand and two are about the ring.

It changes through the day.

Heat and humidity
Fingers swell in heat and humidity, and Maui has both. A ring measured at home in winter can feel different here.

Time of day
Hands swell through the day. Late afternoon is a more accurate measurement than first thing.

Band width
A wide band sits tighter than a thin one at the same nominal size.

Knuckles
If the knuckle is larger than the base of the finger, the size is a compromise, best judged in person.
